It’s coming up on a year since I arrived in Chicago, suitcase in one hand and violin in the other, standing outside a youth hostel and hoping to find a cheap apartment in a cool neighborhood and to meet a ravishing job that would make me feel a part of the city.

I got a cheap apartment with nice roommates, a job at neighborhood level and met some people. I now have people reasons to stay in one place for a while. Why do I love Chicago? Let me list the ways:

-the Reader

-hearing a Chicago accent once in a great while

-I can run through three very distinct neighborhoods without stopping

-new buildings sit next to old ones but not so old that I think I’m in Europe or anything fancy

I also love O’Hare because it means I can leave (ostensibly) whenever I want.
