Yesterday, I met a guy who said the best business education is running a business, not B school. And building a company then selling it is the best education in finance you can get.

Learning about selling money is like traveling to a shadow universe. There are lots and lots of ways to analyze numbers, but you’re still just betting on ideas in the end. I know what all these things are: tranches, MBS, mezzanine funds, ITM stocks, horizons, private equity, GAAP. I like learning the names for things and the arguments for
and against using them to make decisions. Seeing concepts in action really is the best way to learn.
I’m not sure if finance is the path for me. But new knowledge is good knowledge. We’ll see.
